Edit with AI

Select text and Refine it — paraphrase, make it academic, trim, translate, and more — write a new passage at the cursor with Add with AI, and review every change before you keep it.

You don’t need to open a chat to improve a sentence. Select some text and Multilo offers AI actions right there — paraphrase it, make it more academic, trim it, translate it. Put your cursor somewhere and it can write a new passage for that spot. Every change is marked in your document so you can keep it or undo it.

The selection bar

Select some text and a small bar appears just above it (or below, if there’s no room). From left to right:

  • Refine — AI actions for the selected text.
  • @ Cite — insert a citation. See citations.
  • Comment — leave a note on the text. See comments.
  • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, highlight, and link.
  • More actions (⋮) — the full right-click menu.

The right-click menu has the same AI items: Refine, Insert citation, AI Chat (opens chat with your selection attached), and Comment. With no text selected, it offers Suggest with AI instead.

Refine selected text

  1. Select the text

Select a sentence, a paragraph, or several paragraphs.
  2. Click Refine

Click Refine on the selection bar. A card opens with a row of actions. Click More ▾ to see them all.
  3. Choose an action

Click an action, such as Paraphrase or Trim. The new text is written straight into your document and marked, ready for you to review.

The actions you use most move to the front of the row. To keep one there, right-click it and pin it. Press Esc to close the card.

Refine actions

Each action is a small agent with a few MODEs — settings that choose how strongly or in what way it works:

The list is kept up to date from Multilo’s agent catalogue, so you may see new actions appear. You can also make your own — see custom agents.

Change an action’s MODE

Refine runs each action with the MODE you last chose for it. To change it, open Agents, find the action’s card, and pick a different MODE — for example Trim at 20% instead of 10%. Multilo remembers your choice. The same card has a model chip if you want a different model for that action. See agents overview.

Ask for your own edit

If none of the actions fit, type what you want in the box under them (“Edit, summarize, or ask about this document…”), for example:

  • “Turn this into a numbered list of steps.”
  • “Rewrite this for a reviewer who isn’t a specialist.”

Your request goes to AI Chat with the selected text attached, and the chat panel opens with the answer.

Review the changes

AI edits go into your document straight away, but each one is marked until you decide. Changed text gets a soft underline; where text was removed, a small mark shows the spot.

  • One change: click it. A card shows the old words crossed out and the new ones highlighted, with Accept, Dismiss (puts your original back), and Try again.
  • Step through: use the arrows on the review bar to go from one change to the next. Each shows Before and After, with Accept, Reject, Try again, and Insert below — which keeps your original and adds the new version under it.
  • All at once: Accept all or Reject all on the review bar, which also shows how many edits are waiting.
  • Part of the text: select a passage that contains changes and use ✓ to keep them or ✕ to undo them.

If you selected several paragraphs, you review them paragraph by paragraph. Changes waiting for review are also listed in the Edit pane under AI changes to review, and Ctrl+Z (⌘+Z on a Mac) always works too.

Add with AI

Use Add with AI to write something new exactly where your cursor is — a topic sentence, a link between two sections, a short definition.

  1. Place your cursor

Click where the new text should go. A small toolbar appears beside the line.
  2. Describe what to write

Click + and describe what you need in the box (“Describe what to write here…”). The draft appears in the box as it’s written; your document doesn’t change yet.
  3. Adjust it

Not quite right? Type a follow-up such as “Make it shorter” or “Add a citation”, or click Try again.
  4. Insert it

Click Insert to put the text in your document, or Discard to throw it away.

Add with AI reads the text around your cursor and your project’s instructions, voice, and memory, and it is told never to invent a citation. If you ask it a question or a research task instead, it hands that to AI Chat. Inserted text isn’t marked for review — press Ctrl+Z to undo it.

Suggest with AI

Click Suggest on the toolbar beside your cursor, or press Ctrl+Shift+Space (⌘+Shift+Space on a Mac), and Multilo suggests how the text could continue, in grey. Press Tab to accept it or Esc to dismiss it. For suggestions as you type, and their settings, see inline AI suggestions.

Where it works

  • Markdown documents in rich view. That includes Word files you open with Edit as Markdown — see export & import.
  • Not in source view or Word Preview. Switch to rich view, or choose Edit as Markdown for a Word file.
  • Not in files an extension opens, such as slide decks.

Credits and sign-in

Refine, Add with AI, and Suggest with AI all ask an AI model, so they use credits and you need to be signed in. See credits.
