File format support
A capability matrix of every file type Multilo can open, edit, export, or read for source ingestion.
A quick reference for what Multilo can open, edit, and read. For the narrative version, see other file formats.
Editable formats
You open, edit, and save these as documents:
| Format | Notes |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Word (.docx) | Round-trips with structure preserved |
| Markdown (.md) | AI-native editing |
| LaTeX | Source editing |
| Plain text (.txt) | Editable |
Ingestion formats
Read into context as sources — you cite them, you don’t edit them:
| Format | How it’s used |
|---|---|
| Text extracted for reading, search, and citation | |
| Excel (.xlsx), CSV | Previewed as tables; readable by agents |
| Images | Viewed, and seen by agents |
| Audio, video | Transcribed on-device |
| Jupyter (.ipynb) | Cells and outputs shown |
| BibTeX, RIS, CSL-JSON | Imported into the library |
Export
Documents export back to their source format — most importantly, .docx with formatting, footnotes, and citations intact.
When in doubt, drop it in
If a file might be useful, add it to your project — Multilo will tell you how it can use it.
